Iqbal Abdullah Harun is the founding Director General of IPF who successfully transformed works done under Component-3 of the SPEMP Project into a full-fledged training institute. A civil servant of BCS 10th batch, Mr. Harun also played key role in establishment of Macroeconomic wing and Treasury and Debt Management Wing of the Finance Division.
Under his guidance as DG, three tier Budget Management Specialist (BMS) training curriculum was developed, IPF rules regulations, formation of Governing Council and Executive Council done and endowment fund for IPF was received. He was a trainer of FEEM course, IPF completed providing training to over 14000 officials during his tenure. In his over 18 years at Finance Division, worked in Budget Wing, Macroeconomic Wing and Treasury and Debt Management wing. He as worked as Economic Minister at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to United Nations in New York during 2017-2021 while he pursued Bangladesh’s successful completion of two criteria for graduating from LDC status.He also served as Senior Public Finance Adviser for UN Capital Development Fund on lien. Under the guidance of the then Finance Secretary, he drafted the Public Service Award for excellence in public service which later implemented as Bangabandhu Public Administration Award. He did MA in Economics from Japan, MA in Government Financial Management, UK and M.Sc in Geography & Environment, Bangladesh. Currently, he is working as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Chairman, Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation as additional charge. Received professional trainings from home and abroad including IMF, WB, ADB & UNCTAD.
