Director General : Md. Shafiqur Rahman

Md. Shafiqur Rahman assumed office as Director General of the Institute of Public Finance Bangladesh on 1 January 2026. A member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre), he retired from regular service at the rank of Additional Secretary in 2024. Mr. Rahman previously served as Member (Board Administration) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and as Joint Secretary in the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance. Since joining the civil service in 1991, he has held postings across multiple ministries and divisions, including the Finance Division, Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Energy and Mineral Resources Division. He also served as Director General of the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute, where he contributed to the advancement of the blue economy. His career has afforded him deep expertise in financial management, personnel administration, and human resource development, including recruitment and training program design and delivery. He has also played a significant role in the energy sector and in the planning and implementation of numerous government development projects. Mr. Rahman holds an Honours degree in Economics, an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, and a Master’s degree in Government Financial Management from the University of Ulster, UK. He is married to Nazma Akhter and is the father of two sons.
