Dr. Ziaul Abedin assumed the position of the Director General at the Institute of Public Finance, Bangladesh on May 05, 2025. He also serves as the Additional Secretary in the macroeconomic forecasting and policy branch of the Finance Division. Dr. Abedin specializes in macroeconomics. He obtained an undergraduate degree in economics from the Aligarh Muslim University, India, and completed a post-graduate degree in economics from the University of Dhaka. Later, under the Monbukagakusho scholarship of the Japanese Government, he completed a Ph.D. in economics from Shiga University, Japan. Dr. Abedin is a member of the 18th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), Over his more than 24- years of career in the civil service of Bangladesh, he served in various capacities including as debt management specialist of the DMTBF Project (funded by the World Bank), as Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and as Joint Secretary at the Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of Finance. Before joining the civil service, he also worked at a reputed commercial bank in Bangladesh as a lending risk analyst. At different stages of his career, he attended numerous trainings both at home and abroad to specialize in the field of public financial management.
